Cochran Partner, Shean Williams, to receive DeKalb Lawyers Association’s 2023 Mawuli Davis Legal Warrior Award

ATLANTA – May 20, 2023 – DeKalb Lawyers Association is proud to announce Attorney Shean Williams, a national partner at the Cochran Firm, will be honored at the 2023 annual Scholarship Breakfast, Saturday, May 20 at 9 am at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center located at 3181 Rainbow Drive Decatur, GA 30034. Attorney Williams will receive the Mawuli Davis Legal Warrior Award, for his extraordinary commitment, and history in fighting for underserved and marginalized citizens. The DLA annually presents the Legal Warrior Award to legal advocates who fight relentlessly and courageously advocate to ensure justice and equality are realized. Attorney Shean Williams is most deserving of this honor.

A dedicated fighter in the battle against injustice. Attorney Shean Williams graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, then began his legal career after graduating from Georgia State School of Law. Attorney Williams was mentored, hired & trained by Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. (The Cochran Firm Atlanta) in 1998 as an Associate; he is now a Partner with The Firm. Attorney Williams’ goal is to practice the same type of justice, work ethic & excellence as Mr. Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. 

Attorney Shean Williams is a masterful litigator who prides himself on his strong work ethic and tenacity. Mr. Williams simply doesn’t give up, and he always puts his clients first. For the last 27 years, Mr. Williams has been committed to fighting for injured people and their families in the areas of trucking litigation, auto accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home litigation, premises liability, civil rights litigation, and product liability. His jury verdicts and settlements are more than $80 million.

 Mr. Williams is proud to have obtained many multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements for his injured clients. Specifically, Mr. Williams was one of the lead attorneys who obtained a $20 Millionwrongful death verdict in Clayton County, Georgia, and a $17.5 Million verdict in Fulton County, Georgia. Attorney Williams’ specialty is the unique way he connects with members of his jury panel, making complex themes more relatable to the everyday person. Shean has his finger on the pulse of his community donating time, talent, and money to many diverse civic groups including New Mercies Christian Church, Project Destiny, Inc., Green Pastures Christian Church, The Winning Circle, and Star Struck Foundation. 

The DeKalb Lawyers Association was formed in DeKalb County, Georgia in 1984 to promote the growth and development of minority attorneys and to strengthen the social and economic fiber of the community. Since its inception, DLA has evolved into a strong multicultural organization. DLA’s membership consists of attorneys, judges, and other federal, state, and local elected and appointed officials. Each year the DeKalb Lawyers Association hosts an Annual Scholarship Breakfast. This is a rich tradition rooted in the theory that those once helped, should help others.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
