TFLI HOSTED BLACK WALL STREET EXPERIENCE HONORING OLDEST LIVING TUSLA, OK SURVIVOR
3rd Annual Black Wall Street Black Business Expo Honored Oldest Living Survivor and Local Business Owners in Atlanta on June 1st
On Saturday, June 1st, The Financial Literacy Institute Inc. made history by honoring Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre. The day began with a parade in College Park, welcoming Mother Fletcher. As an honorary Buffalo Soldier member, she was escorted by the Atlanta Buffalo Soldiers bike club and rode with the Black Panther Corvette Club to greet the local citizens. This monumental event was supported by the Omicron Kappa Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., a second-liner band, and more.
Following the parade, the 3rd Annual Black Wall Street Black Business Expo kicked off with joy and celebration. The expo featured a wide array of vendors, a lively photo booth, captivating entertainment, exciting prize giveaways, and a DJ who kept the crowd engaged with energetic tunes. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from experts on Corporate Social Responsibility, Health & Wellness, Financial Literacy, Education & Social Action.
Fulton County Commissioner of District 4 Natalie Hall honored Jasmine Young, the Founder of T.F.L.I., and Mother Viola Ford Fletcher with recognitions for their dedication to service and commitment to communities of color throughout Georgia and nationwide.
The pinnacle of the day was the Fireside Chat, a captivating conversation featuring Mother Fletcher, her grandson Ike Howard, Valorie, the VP of the Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation, Business & Civil Rights Attorney Kianna Chennault, CPA & TFLI Founder & President Jasmine Young, hosted by Streetz 94.5’s Mz. Shyneka. The event culminated with a moment of recognition, as Jasmine Young, Founder of The Financial Literacy Institute Inc., bestowed the prestigious Black Wall Street Honor upon ten deserving business owners. The first and most heartfelt honor was the humanitarian award presented to Mother Viola Ford Fletcher. The other esteemed honorees included Roger Alexander, Kristian Smith, Braque Talley, Ash Cash, DeVynne Starks, Jillian Anderson, La’Tasha Givens, Novella Tascoe, and Mary Pat Hector.
The Financial Literacy Institute plans to continue its monthly initiatives to help underserved and underrepresented families gain access to resources and proper financial education.
