ATLANTA REAL ESTATE MOGUL MAJA SLY HONORS INFLUENTIAL TRAILBLAZERS AT THE 3RD ANNUAL DINNER AT DUSK POLO CLASSIC LEGACY ON THE GREEN

Maja Sly is recognized for creating unique pathways to success for Black women in business and television. As the curator for the annual Dinner at Dusk philanthropic event, she empowers Black women with the knowledge and resources to succeed in real estate and entrepreneurship and acquire higher education.

SEPTEMBER 2024 – Atlanta, GA. On Sunday, September 15, real estate mogul, Maja Sly curated the 3rd Annual Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic Legacy on the Green at Chukkar Farms in Alpharetta, Georgia. Maja, a first-generation college graduate who holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Huntsville, Alabama, originated the ‘Power of One’ ideology to empower Black women with the mindset that one connection, one person or one idea can positively change their lives and change the trajectory of their families’ legacies.
This year’s honorees were HGTV’s Flipping Virgins and Property Virgins Host Egypt Sherrod, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor of Cardiology Dr. Karri Turner, Watson Realty Co. Broker Quiana Watson, The Good Men Club Founder and former Black Love Host Jack A. Daniels, Life Coach and Reinvention Strategist Marshawn Daniels, Atlanta Public School Board At-Large Member Alfred Brooks, T’s Brunch Bar CEO Teneshia Murray Butler, Decorative Artist, Design Expert and TV Personality Tobey Renee Sanders, Georgia State Representative of District 55 Inga Willis, Hair and Beauty Entrepreneur Tahira Joy, HBCU All-Stars CEO Travis Williams, Financial Advisor Dr. Nicole Garner-Scott, Sherita Cherry Institute Founder Sherita Cherry, Community Curator Braxton Simpson, and Philana Williams, director of the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Entertainment.

“Each of today’s honorees is being honored for different reasons, but in their respective rights, they are all winners,” said Maja. “They truly embody the ‘Power of One,’ which is what Dinner at Dusk is all about. It is one person, one introduction, or one thing that can change your life.”
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Dinner at Dusk Foundation, which equips Black women with financial literacy and the knowledge and relationships to achieve their dreams of home ownership and higher education. In the past year, the nonprofit organization has been instrumental in supporting its clients in accessing $2.8 million in student loan forgiveness, $1.4 million in down payment assistance for affordable housing and $3 million in USDA funding for single-family homes.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
