House Call
After 18 Acceptances, Philadelphia’s Native Cameron Tae Gaskins Commits to Morehouse with a Presidential Scholarship
A Young Scholars Journey to Greatness
For most high school seniors, receiving multiple college acceptance letters is a dream come true. For Cameron Tae Gaskins, a Philadelphia native, that dream became a reality—18 times over. With offers from top institutions like Penn State, Clark Atlanta, Georgia State, FAMU, Morgan State, and Texas A&M, Cameron had his pick of some of the nations most respected universities. But after careful consideration, he made the decision that felt most like home: joining the ranks of the distinguished Morehouse Men.
What made this moment even more remarkable? Cameron was awarded a Presidential Scholarship, securing not only his place at Morehouse College but also a legacy of academic excellence and leadership.
The Road to 18 Acceptances
Cameron’s journey to this moment was anything but ordinary. After moving to Atlanta, he attended Woodward Academy, a prestigious college preparatory school known for its rigorous academics and strong commitment to leadership development. There, he cultivated the discipline, resilience, and academic excellence that would lead to his impressive list of acceptances.
I wanted to explore all my options and make sure I was choosing the best fit for me academically, culturally, and personally, Cameron explains. His acceptance list was both impressive and diverse, spanning institutions from the East Coast to the South, including North Carolina Central, Bowie State, Xavier University, and Florida Atlantic. But it was Morehouse that ultimately captured his heart.
Why Morehouse?
For Cameron, the decision to commit to Morehouse wasn’t just about prestige was about purpose. Morehouse isn’t just a college; it’s a brotherhood. It’s s a place that has produced some of the most powerful leaders in history, he says. I wanted to be in an environment that would challenge me, inspire me, and prepare me to make a difference.
The opportunity to receive a Presidential Scholarship only solidified his choice. Morehouse commitment to developing future Black leaders resonated deeply with Cameron, who has always seen education as a vehicle for empowerment and change.
A Family Pride, A City’s s Inspiration
Cameron’s achievement is more than personal it’s s a source of pride for his family, his school, and the city of Philadelphia. His success serves as an inspiration to other young Black students who aspire to break barriers and exceed expectations.
As he prepares to embark on this new chapter at Morehouse, Cameron is focused on making the most of his experience. This is just the beginning, he says. I’m ready to grow, to learn, and to use everything Morehouse teaches me to give back to my community and beyond.
With 18 college acceptances, a Presidential Scholarship, and a bright future ahead, Cameron Tae Gaskins is not just heading to Morehouse as making history.
