CERTIFIED MASTER CHEF DARYL SHULAR
A TRAILBLAZER IN CULINARY EXCELLENCE
In the rare air of culinary greatness stands Daryl Shular, a visionary businessman, celebrated educator, and television host whose journey has reshaped the landscape of fine dining and culinary education in America. As the charismatic host of Twisted Dish on AspireTV, Chef Shular invites audiences into a world where classical technique meets bold innovation.
Born and raised in Central Florida and a graduate of Auburndale Senior High School, Shular excelled not only in sports but also in music as a band member—early signs of the discipline and artistry that would later define his culinary career. After relocating to Atlanta, he earned his degree in Culinary Arts from The Art Institute of Atlanta, laying the foundation for what would become a historic rise in the culinary world.
But Chef Shular did not merely pursue excellence—he redefined it.
HISTORIC MILESTONES: FROM ASPIRING COOK TO CULINARY ICON
In 2014, Chef Shular achieved one of the highest honors in the culinary profession: the prestigious Certified Master Chef (CMC) designation through the American Culinary Federation (ACF). The 130-hour, eight-day examination is regarded as one of the most rigorous tests in the culinary arts. With that achievement, Shular became the first African American and minority chef to earn the title—one of only a small group globally to hold the distinction.
For many, such an accomplishment would represent the pinnacle of a career. For Shular, it was simply a launching point.
His competitive record speaks volumes. He has earned more than twenty gold medals and multiple “Best in Show” awards across national and international stages. In 2008, he competed at the prestigious Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung (IKA), commonly known as the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany, earning a gold medal as part of Team USA against 63 global teams. In 2012, he returned to the global stage as captain of the ACF Culinary Regional Team USA.
Earlier milestones include:
• Four gold medals and multiple “Best in Show” honors at the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers Culinary Invitational (2003)
• National Champion in the Nutritional Hot Food Challenge at the ACF National Convention (2004)
• Gold medalist at the International Hotel & Restaurant Association Culinary Arts Masters Competition in Guangzhou, China (2005)
In 2005, Shular was inducted into The HistoryMakers, becoming one of the youngest African American chefs to receive the distinction. His life story was later archived in the Library of Congress, preserving his legacy as part of America’s living history.
INTRODUCING THE SHULAR TASTING ROOM:
A NEW ERA IN FINE DINING
In 2025, Chef Shular unveiled his latest visionary concept: Shular Tasting Room, a hyper-exclusive dining experience in the heart of downtown Atlanta.
The Shular Tasting Room is more than a restaurant—it is an immersive culinary journey. Featuring a five-course chef’s menu rooted in classical technique and global influence, the space embodies Shular’s philosophy of respecting ingredients, honoring seasonality, and elevating Southern cuisine with modern refinement.
Each plate tells a story of discipline, travel, science, and soul.
EMPOWERING FUTURE CHEFS:
EDUCATION AS LEGACY
Chef Shular’s impact extends far beyond the kitchen. As founder and CEO of the Daryl Shular Hospitality Group, he established the Shular Institute—the first Black-owned culinary school in North America.
Built on hands-on, real-world training, the Institute focuses on preparing students for the evolving demands of today’s hospitality industry. Shular emphasizes science-based culinary education:
“We focus on the science of cooking, so that students can really respect Mother Nature, seasonality, and flavor profile.”
Expanding this mission, he launched Brigade MKE in Milwaukee, providing high-risk youth with culinary education and career pathways. Through these initiatives, Shular is not simply creating chefs—he is building futures.
His partnerships with industry leaders, including collaborations connected to Compass Group USA and Microsoft at The Connector in Atlanta, further demonstrate his commitment to innovation and accessibility in culinary education.
GLOBAL INFLUENCE & CONTINUED IMPACT
Chef Shular’s expertise has been sought worldwide. In 2024, he was invited by the USDA to conduct masterclasses in Bulgaria at HRC Culinary Academy, highlighting the versatility and sustainability of American beef through a five-course “Modern Southern American Cuisine” experience.
In 2025, he
• Hosted two USDA workshops in Dubai showcasing U.S. poultry
• Served as an official judge for the 2025 U.S. Culinary Open
• Lead a seven-day culinary voyage aboard the Azamara Pursuit through Greece, Turkey, and Italy
Each venture reinforces his position as a global ambassador of American culinary excellence.
A FAMILY AND LEGACY:
THE HEART BEHIND THE CHEF
Despite managing multiple businesses, international engagements, and television production, Chef Shular remains grounded in family. He credits his wife Michelle and his three daughters as his greatest inspiration and proudest accomplishments.
Behind the medals, titles, and television appearances is a man deeply committed to community, mentorship, and generational impact.
