CIAA Announces 2018 Women’s Tennis Honors

Bowie, MD (April 19, 2018)- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Women’s Tennis Association and Sports Information Directors Association, announces the 2018 Women’s Tennis All-CIAA First Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year. These outstanding student-athletes and coach were formally recognized today before the start of the 2018 CIAA Women’s Tennis Championship.
Marilyne Kamegne, a senior from Shaw University, has been named Women’s Tennis Player of the Year. Kamegne has had an outstanding season concluding the regular season with a twelve-match winning streak. She finished her singles season with an impressive 13-2 overall record, while sweeping her CIAA opponents 8-0. She also had an outstanding season in doubles matches, she teamed up with three different teammates to produce a 18-1 overall doubles record, 11-0 against CIAA opponents.
Rookie, Halle Parker of Johnson C. Smith has earned Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year honors. The Magnolia, DE native finished her freshmen season with a perfect 10-0 CIAA record as JCSU’s No. 1 singles competitor. While competing against CIAA opponents, Parker won 9-of-10 matches in straight sets; these victories assisted in her overall singles record of 15-7. Along with her impressive singles records, she has also racked up 14-9 overall doubles record, and 9-2 CIAA doubles record with teammate Jada Strickland.
Coach Sunday Enitan has developed a very successful program over the years coaching at Shaw University. This season has been an unstoppable season for the Lady Bears of Shaw University. Coach Enitan has produced athletes not only on the court, but in the classroom. This season the Lady Bears have belted an 18-2 overall recorded, while smashing CIAA opponents 12-0. They have also been named the Southern Division Champions for the tenth consecutive season and they have been consistently ranked in the Atlantic Region. The Lady Bears this season have also been honored for their hard work in the classroom, as they have been awarded the 2018 Highest Team GPA Award with a 3.44 grade point average.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
