Entrepreneur and Philanthropist April Love Marks the Return of The Pink Awards on Saturday, February 25, 2023
April Love is celebrating her 12th year of breast cancer survivorship by educating communities of color about the importance of self-care and early detection.
JANUARY 2023 – Atlanta, GA. Hailed as one of Atlanta’s most popular breast cancer awareness and philanthropic events, The Pink Awards will return on Saturday, February 25, 2023, inside the illustrious Riverside EpiCenter. The event will be co-hosted by “Martin” Co-star Carl Anthony Payne II and NAACP Image Award Winner and Actor Malik Yoba. The Pink Awards is the only annual philanthropic event where Black excellence and breast cancer awareness unite at center stage. Guests can purchase tickets now and learn more about the event on the website at www.thepinkawards.com.
“Breast cancer is not your grandmother’s disease,” states Founder and Executive Producer April Love. April was younger than 40 when she was diagnosed with estrogen receptor-positive, stage III ductal carcinoma breast cancer on Christmas Eve in 2009. Within 30 days of her diagnosis, April learned five female colleagues were also diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, all of them have passed on. April honors theirs and other women’s legacies by encouraging women and men about the importance of self-care and early detection. “It is important to complete an annual exam with your primary care provider. It may even save your life!” April’s primary care provider is credited with saving her life because she requested her to get a mammogram.
The Pink Awards raises funds for breast cancer warriors and survivors who cannot pay their monthly household and medical bills due to their inability to remain employed while undergoing chemotherapy. The event also honors global business and community leaders who are using their talents and resources to uplift the lives of others.
“I started hosting pink events while I was still in treatment to educate everyone about early detection and effective cancer prevention practices,” states April. “I also want to encourage cancer warriors to keep their faith while fighting the greatest battle of their lives. I am truly blessed to have my Atlanta community supporting me in helping these special individuals.”
For her resiliency and consistent dedication, in 2022, The Charge Up Campaign honored April with the Community Impact Award at its 5th Annual Pink Champagne Gala.
