The film stars Clifton Powell, Obumneme Nwankwo, and Najma Shy Mitch.

The brainchild of screenwriter and executive producer, Alfred “Shaborn” Adams, PLAYER promises to change the game when it comes to developing thought-provoking films that leave audiences wanting more.

Adams is a gifted author with eight published novels under his belt, making his transition into the film industry an inevitability. With Adams’ vision for storytelling transferred onto the big screen, Dewey Hill Films will become an unstoppable force in creating captivating films. The first project that will spearhead their launch is “PLAYER,” directed by Justin Poage with Fifteen Studios.

Based on a novel written by Adams, PLAYER takes viewers through Robert’s life experiences as he veers off course into sexual promiscuity and disregards everything he was taught growing up by the women in his life:

“PLAYER is based on a novel I wrote”, says Adams, “which highlights the journey of a young black man who grew up in a house of women and no male role model. Although he grows up surrounded by love and positive teachings, Robert (like many of us), would not only choose his own path, one that is filled with unwise decision making, but also mistreatment of countless women. Whereas, neither is it a crime, my idea for this story is to show people that there are consequences to how we treat people. We always hear about karma, but PLAYER gives a ‘visual’ to what karma looks like!”

This story represents what many individuals face without the presence of a male figure – how do you rebuild your life? It is a powerful tale of redemption and resilience.

Dewey Hills Films was launched in 2023, and despite having only released one movie so far, they are already sending shockwaves throughout the film industry.

Legendary award winning actor Clifton Powell shares what ultimately made him accept his role in the independent film PLAYER:

“I read this piece and it really touched my heart, because people see me play different characters but when I play tough guys, it’s all acting because I’ve never been arrested, never been in trouble. And so, I always take my hats off to Sha, because to know all that he has been through, I would not know psychologically what it takes to do a second in prison. To know that he has been inside, he came out and turned his life around and produced an independent film? That’s the kind of brothers I take my hats off to. We have got to continue to do more stuff like this,” Powell exclaimed.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
