The Book Slam Live is proud to announce a series of three benefit shows dedicated to aiding celebrity Comedian Nick Lewis

In a powerful show of solidarity and compassion, The Book Slam Live will be hosting three benefit shows across the country to aid beloved comedian Nick Lewis as he embarks on a challenging journey of recovery. This initiative is driven by a community that cares deeply for Nick, who has brought laughter to countless audiences throughout his career.

On December 30, 2023, Nick Lewis collapsed in his driveway due to a bleeding blood vessel, leading to a massive stroke that left his left side incapacitated. Despite his determination to regain his strength through rigorous physical therapy, tragedy struck again on July 21, 2024. While driving near Charlotte, North Carolina, Nick was involved in a devastating accident when his car was hit head-on by an 18-wheeler traveling over 60 miles per hour. The impact sent his car tumbling, only to be struck again by a second 18-wheeler, exacerbating his injuries and leading to significant head trauma.

In response to Nick’s situation, Dr. April K, a close friend of Nick and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, has taken the lead in organizing these benefit shows. As the Southeastern Region Domestic Violence Coordinator for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Dr. April K understands the importance of community support during difficult times. She, along with her partners from MADDCity Media Group, Javon Johnson Productions, and K4 Entertainment, has put together three special events in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas, TX, aimed at raising funds to assist Nick and his family.

Nick Lewis is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, and he is calling upon his fraternity brothers and the broader Divine 9 community for support. The Divine 9, which includes the nine African American fraternities and sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council, has a rich legacy of uplifting the Black community through economic empowerment. This is a moment for the Divine 9 to come together and show their collective strength by supporting one of their own during this critical time.

The Book Slam Live benefit shows promise not only to be evenings of entertainment but also a heartfelt rallying point for all who wish to contribute to Nick’s recovery. With Dr. April K’s leadership and the involvement of celebrities, fraternity and sorority members, and the general public, these events will provide a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in Nick’s life.

Tickets are now available, and donations can be made online or at the events. Visit www.thebookslam.com. Let’s come together to help Nick Lewis rebuild his life, one laugh at a time.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
