Cardi B, Mustard, DJ Spinderella, and More to Headline 2025 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards

By Dr. Jerome Dorn

The 2025 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards are turning up the heat in Los Angeles as the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) prepares to honor one of music’s most influential powerhouses: Cardi B. Set against the luxury backdrop of the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on Sunday, June 8, this invite-only celebration will bring together the industry’s elite for a night dedicated to innovation, artistry, and cultural impact.

Cardi B will be presented with the prestigious ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award, a fitting tribute to the Bronx-born superstar whose unfiltered authenticity, lyrical prowess, and genre-bending success have redefined modern hip-hop. With multiple platinum records, GRAMMY® wins, and a social media presence that commands global attention, Cardi B embodies the spirit of cultural influence in every beat and bar.

Joining the celebration is a lineup that reads like a playlist of chart-toppers and trendsetters. Hit-making producer Mustard, legendary producer and So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri, R&B crooner Jeremih, lyrical street storyteller Tee Grizzley, and the iconic Jimmy Jam will all be in the building. And that’s just the beginning.

Music fans will recognize the legendary names that continue to shape soundtracks across generations — Siedah Garrett, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, Warryn Campbell, and Leon Sylvers III — all of whom bring decades of creativity and excellence to the table.

The evening’s soundtrack will be in the skilled hands of DJ Spinderella, the GRAMMY Award-winning DJ, rapper, and producer who made history as part of the groundbreaking trio Salt-N-Pepa. With Spinderella behind the decks, guests can expect a masterful mix of old-school flair and new-wave energy.

Industry moguls and creatives like Mona Scott-Young, Jon Platt, Hitmaka, Tank, Deputy, James Fortune, 310Babii, and many more will also be present, underlining the event’s unique position at the crossroads of music, art, and cultural evolution.

Presented annually, the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards spotlight the music creators who drive the pulse of R&B, hip-hop, gospel, and more. But this year’s event is more than a ceremony — it’s a celebration of legacy and influence, paying homage to the voices and producers who continue to push the boundaries of sound.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
