Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson and Director Javon Johnson Presented a Thought-Provoking Production at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center

Atlanta audiences gathered for an evening of theater, entertainment, humor, and thought-provoking storytelling as Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson and acclaimed actor, writer, and director Javon Johnson presented Pulpit Pimping: The Stage Play on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center in Atlanta.

The production brought together an accomplished creative team and a compelling story that entertained audiences while examining faith, leadership, relationships, power, and the complicated realities that could exist behind the pulpit.

JAVON JOHNSON — FROM SCREEN TO STAGE

Director Javon Johnson brought extensive television, film, writing, and theatrical experience to the production.

Johnson was recognized by television audiences for his work on The Oval and American Soul, as well as his appearance in the acclaimed film The Hate U Give. His experience as an actor gave him a unique perspective behind the scenes, allowing him to approach directing with a strong understanding of both storytelling and performance.

With Pulpit Pimping, Johnson stepped behind the curtain to help transform the production’s message into a live theatrical experience.

Working alongside Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson, Johnson brought the characters, conflicts, humor, and underlying message of the production to life onstage.

DR. LETITIA SCOTT JACKSON — A STORY WITH SOMETHING TO SAY

At the heart of Pulpit Pimping was Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson, whose vision drove a production that was unafraid to explore difficult conversations.

The title alone made a statement.

Pulpit Pimping invited audiences to examine what could happen when spirituality, influence, money, relationships, personal ambition, and leadership collided. Through theatrical storytelling, the production encouraged viewers to look beyond appearances and consider the difference between genuinely serving people and using positions of influence for personal benefit.

It was entertainment with a conversation attached.

RODNEY PERRY AS DEACON NOAH

Adding star power to the evening was a celebrity guest appearance by Rodney Perry as Deacon Noah.

Known for his comedy, acting, hosting, and unmistakable personality, Perry brought another dimension to the production. His presence delivered memorable moments while complementing the play’s blend of humor and serious subject matter.

The combination of Perry’s comedic instincts, Johnson’s directing experience, and Dr. Jackson’s vision created a production that kept audiences entertained while leaving them with plenty to discuss after the curtain closed.

ATLANTA WELCOMED THE PRODUCTION

Atlanta had long been a city where theater, faith, music, film, and Black culture intersected, making the historic Ray Charles Performing Arts Center an appropriate setting for the theatrical experience.

On August 29, 2026, Pulpit Pimping: The Stage Play brought its message to the stage before an Atlanta audience prepared for an evening of laughter, drama, reflection, and conversation.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone.
