The Living Legends Foundation Celebrates 35 Years of Service, Scholarship & Legacy Preservation

By Dr. Jerome Dorn

For more than three decades, the Living Legends Foundation, Inc. has stood at the intersection of music, leadership, service and legacy. In 2026, that commitment takes center stage as the organization prepares for its 35th Anniversary Awards Dinner and Gala in Atlanta, bringing together influential executives, broadcasters, entrepreneurs, advocates and cultural leaders for an evening dedicated to recognizing those whose work has helped shape the Black music and entertainment industry.

The celebration is more than an awards ceremony. It represents the continuing mission of an organization built around three essential pillars: Service, Scholarship and Legacy Preservation.

Service: Taking Care of Those Who Helped Build the Industry

Behind every legendary artist, hit record and cultural movement are countless professionals whose work often happens away from the spotlight.

The Living Legends Foundation recognizes those contributions while providing financial assistance and critical resources to industry professionals in need. Just as importantly, that assistance is provided discreetly and respectfully, allowing recipients to maintain their dignity during difficult times.

It is a powerful reminder that celebrating legends should not begin and end with applause. Service means being there when members of the music community need support the most.

Scholarship: Preparing the Next Generation

The Foundation is also looking forward.

Through scholarships for college students pursuing behind-the-scenes careers in entertainment, the organization helps create opportunities for a new generation of professionals to enter and ultimately lead the industry.

Those future executives, producers, publicists, marketers, broadcasters, attorneys, engineers and other professionals will carry forward a legacy created by generations before them.

By connecting education with opportunity, the Living Legends Foundation helps ensure that Black excellence within the business of entertainment continues to grow.

Legacy Preservation: Giving Our History Its Flowers

Legacy is not simply about remembering names. It is about understanding the doors those individuals opened and ensuring their contributions remain part of the industry’s history.

Through its annual gala and year-round initiatives, the Living Legends Foundation celebrates the achievements of Black executives and other influential professionals while encouraging dialogue between established leaders and emerging generations.

That intergenerational connection gives younger professionals an opportunity to understand the sacrifices, innovations and leadership that helped create many of the opportunities available today.

The message is clear: Honor the past. Educate the present. Empower the future.

A Night for the Legends

The upcoming Atlanta celebration will recognize an extraordinary collection of professionals whose careers span radio, recorded music, promotion, entrepreneurship, advocacy and executive leadership.

Among those being celebrated are Louis Carr, Juliette Jones, Kenny Smoov, Shelby Joyner, William “Bill” Ingram, Sulaiman Mausi, Ted Lucas, Greg Street, Shahida Mausi, Gary Guidry, Troy Brown, Phylicia Fant, James McMillan, Esq., Lionel Bea, Janice Cotton, Walt Reeder Jr., Ralph McDaniels and Tim Reid.

Each represents a different chapter of the entertainment industry’s story, but collectively they demonstrate the enormous impact that leadership behind the scenes has had on Black music and culture.

The gathering also provides something increasingly important: an opportunity for generations of music professionals to occupy the same room, exchange knowledge, renew relationships and recognize contributions that might otherwise go undocumented.

More Than an Awards Gala—A Living Legacy

Thirty-five years represents thousands of relationships, careers influenced, opportunities created and stories preserved.

The Living Legends Foundation’s continuing work demonstrates that preserving history and investing in the future do not have to be separate missions. They are part of the same responsibility.

Service protects the people who built the industry.
Scholarship prepares those who will inherit it.
Legacy Preservation ensures the journey between generations is never forgotten.

As the Living Legends Foundation prepares to gather in Atlanta for its 2026 celebration, InDaHouseMedia proudly recognizes an organization committed not only to giving legends their flowers, but to making certain their seeds continue to grow.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
