THE PLAYERS’ SHOWCASE

The Musicians Behind the Music. Finally, Center Stage.

By Dr. Jerome Dorn | InDaHouseMedia

Behind every memorable performance are musicians whose contributions give a song its character—the keyboard passage that sets the mood, the bass line that holds the groove, the horn that makes you stop and listen, and the drummer who keeps everything moving. At The Players’ Showcase, those instrumentalists become the main attraction.

Presented by Tajuana Huston, Creator and Executive Producer, this live discovery experience comes to Londzell Performing Arts Theatre in Tucker, Georgia, on Thursday, January 21, 2027. Sixteen musicians will perform across four musical divisions before eight celebrity judges and a live audience, bringing individual talent and musical collaboration into the spotlight.

The premise is compelling: give the musicians behind the music a stage of their own—and give audiences an opportunity to hear what happens when those players step forward.

Each competitor will deliver a solo performance, offering a chance to showcase technique, personality and musical expression. Then comes The Players’ Challenge, where the musicians will come together. That shift from individual performance to collaboration promises another dimension to the evening: the opportunity to hear how distinct musical voices connect.

A powerful solo can command attention. Playing together calls for something equally essential—the ability to listen, respond and make room for another musician’s ideas.

Eight Celebrity Judges. A Stage Full of Possibility.

The showcase’s celebrity judging panel brings together musicians representing keys, horns, bass, guitar and drums:

  • Frank McComb — Keys
  • Rodney Edge — Keys
  • Reggie Hines — Sax
  • Melvin M Miller — Trumpet
  • Tres Gilbert — Bass
  • Rick Watford — Guitar
  • Lil John Roberts — Drums
  • James PJ Spraggins — Drums

Jay Williams will host the evening, guiding the audience through a competition built around the skill and creativity of instrumentalists.

With Huston at the helm, The Players’ Showcase places a well-deserved spotlight on artists whose work often supports someone else’s moment. Here, their names, their sound and their artistry lead the program.

For music lovers, the appeal reaches beyond competition. It is a chance to experience instrumental performance up close—to follow a phrase, feel a rhythm develop and witness the exchange that happens when musicians share a stage. For the performers, it is an opportunity to step forward and let their playing introduce them.

Sixteen musicians. Four musical divisions. One stage. A room full of possibility.

Your talent. Your moment. Your stage.

Be in the room when it happens.
