Spotlight on Romaine Waite: From Montego Bay to the Mainstage

By Dr. Jerome Dorn

Romaine Waite is a man whose journey is as compelling as the characters he portrays. Born in the vibrant city of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and raised in the cultural mosaic of Canada, Waite’s unique upbringing shaped both his worldview and his artistry. His first spark of passion for performing ignited in high school drama class—but it wasn’t until a role in an indie film came along that he truly saw acting not just as a passion, but as his calling.

From that pivotal moment, Waite never looked back. He honed his craft with a brief but rich experience in theatre before transitioning into film and television. His screen presence began making waves through short and independent films, ultimately leading to his first network appearance on the long-running Canadian series Murdoch Mysteries (CBC). That role opened the doors to a series of exciting opportunities, including a recurring co-star role in The Mist (Netflix), based on Stephen King’s chilling novella, where he held his own alongside the likes of Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire) and Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings).

With every new role, Romaine Waite continued to expand his range and deepen his resume. His talent has landed him in high-profile productions such as Star Trek: Discovery (CBS), Departure (Peacock), and fan-favorite Schitt’s Creek (Netflix). He also brought emotional depth to the screen in The Clark Sisters (Lifetime) and flexed his holiday charm in A New Diva’s Christmas Carol, produced by Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures for VH1.

Currently, Waite is captivating audiences as a series regular in the 7th season of Hudson & Rex (FX), where he continues to evolve as a commanding presence on screen. And while acting is the core of his creative expression, he’s also stepping behind the camera. His recent film, Trapped in the Spotlight, co-starring Monique Coleman and Melyssa Ford, demonstrates his growing influence in the film world. In addition, Waite has written and produced his second feature film, For His Name Sake, which is set for release soon.

What sets Romaine Waite apart isn’t just his talent—it’s his intention. As an artist, he’s deeply committed to telling authentic, human stories that resonate with real-world themes. He views acting as more than entertainment; it’s a vehicle for transformation. Whether exploring the complexities of identity, love, or injustice, Waite brings a depth that invites audiences not just to watch—but to feel, reflect, and engage.

From Montego Bay to major streaming platforms, Romaine Waite is proof that talent, when coupled with purpose, knows no borders. And as his star continues to rise, so too does his mission—to create work that speaks to the heart of humanity.

Stay tuned. Romaine Waite is just getting started.
