TRESSA AZAREL SMALLWOOD AND YANDY SMITH-HARRIS’ THRILLER “THE DEADLY GETAWAY”

Hollywood CA, – MegaMind Media announced the network and premiere date for its newest destination thriller, co-executive produced by icon Yandy SmithTressa Azarel Smallwood (MegaMind CEO). “The Deadly Getaway” stars Jason Weaver (The Chi), Jeff Logan (DoubleCross), Princess Love (Love & Hip Hop), and Smith (in the lead role), premieres May 9 as a BET+ Original movie. 

The highly anticipated BET+ original movie is directed by Charles Jones, and produced by Melissa Llewellyn-Alston and Kristin Iris Johnson. Donte LeeRobyn LyonJerry Vines, and Jermaine Smith, also serve as executive producers for MegaMind Media; with Marvin Neil and Lorisa Bates for BET+. The Deadly Getaway is written by Chad Quinn and Eric Dickens.

“The Deadly Getaway is the perfect reintroduction to classic thrillers, which encompass dramatic twists, and spine-chilling moments,” says Smallwood. “It showcases the range and diversity of emerging Black writers across genres of film and television.”

This year, Smallwood and MegaMind Media earned BET+ two NAACP Image Awards’ nominations for the biopic First Lady Of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story. In 2023, Smallwood’s film A Rich Christmas (BET) earned a Best Original Movie nomination from the NAMIC Awards for the network. 

Working across brands, Smallwood and MegaMind Media are responsible for the successful BETher series’ “The Couch” and “The Waiting Room” which focus on women’s health issues, and continues to expand the company’s diverse catalog of content at BET Networks.

THE DEADLY GETAWAY SYNOPSISAn upwardly mobile couple travel to a glamorous campsite destination for a romantic weekend getaway that quickly turns nightmarish. Jacob (Weaver) plans to propose to his girlfriend of two years, Hope (Smith), but the arrival of her obsessive ex-boyfriend, Derrick (Logan), and his girlfriend, Jada (Love Norwood) complicates things. Tensions and jealousy mount as Derrick becomes inappropriate with his flirtations. Things get even worse when the owners of the Away Pod go missing and Hope discovers Derrick has a dark secret he’s keeping from them all. Wanted by the police for a botched robbery and murder, there’s nothing Derrick won’t do to protect his secret even if it means killing his precious Hope. Stranded in the woods with a target on their backs, Hope and Jacob become the hunted and must fight their way out of this nightmare if they want to stay alive.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone.
