Jazz Heavyweights Benito Gonzalez & Jeff “Tain” Watts Ignite a Two-Night Musical Experience at The Velvet Note – May 1–2

An extraordinary weekend of world-class jazz is on the horizon as acclaimed pianist Benito Gonzalez and legendary drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts take over The Velvet Note for a special two-night engagement on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, with performances at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM each evening.

Known for curating unforgettable musical moments, The Velvet Note once again brings together two of jazz’s most commanding voices for an experience that promises intensity, elegance, and pure artistic expression.

Benito Gonzalez, a Grammy-winning pianist celebrated for his dynamic technique and emotional depth, seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, creating a sound that is both rooted and refreshingly modern. Joining him is Jeff “Tain” Watts, one of the most influential drummers of his generation, whose commanding style and remarkable precision have shaped the sound of contemporary jazz alongside icons such as Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis.

Together, Gonzalez and Watts deliver more than a concert—they create an immersive dialogue. Their synergy on stage transforms each performance into a living, breathing exchange of rhythm, melody, and improvisation that evolves in real time.

Set within the refined and acoustically pristine environment of The Velvet Note, audiences are invited into a rare musical encounter where every note resonates with clarity and intention. The venue’s intimate design ensures that guests are not just spectators, but part of the experience itself.

“These are the moments we strive to create,” says founder Tamara Fuller. “When artists of this magnitude come together in such a close, intentional setting, the energy is undeniable. It becomes something truly special for everyone in the room.”

Beyond the music, guests can indulge in a thoughtfully curated culinary experience. The Velvet Note offers a selection of savory and sweet dishes prepared fresh in-house, featuring seasonal ingredients and chef-driven recipes. Each plate reflects a commitment to quality, with limited quantities crafted daily to maintain excellence.

Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres.
