“Ongoing Recognition Sparks Call for Hollywood Walk of Fame Star!”

The City of Akron proudly honored platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and musician Howard Hewettby officially designating a portion of Cadillac Boulevard in West Akron as “Howard Hewett, Jr. Way.

The ceremonial street dedication took place on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Buchtel High School during halftime of the football game between Buchtel High School and East High School. 

The event brought together city officials, community members, alumni, and fans to celebrate one of Akron’s most accomplished native sons.

The honor recognizes Hewett’s extraordinary musical legacy and his deep-rooted connection to the West Akron community where he was born and raised.

Cadillac Boulevard, where Hewett spent his early years, served as the backdrop for his formative experiences and the beginning of his journey into music.

Hewett first began singing gospel as a child alongside his older sisters in the Hewett Singers, later transitioning into R&B during his teenage years as he continued to refine his craft with the LYFE Band.

His talent and artistry ultimately led him to international acclaim as the lead vocalist of the Grammy Award-winning R&B/soul group Shalamar.

Following his success with the group, Hewett launched a celebrated solo career, earning recognition for timeless hits such as “Say Amen,” “Stay,” and “I’m For Real,” solidifying his place as one of the most distinctive voices in R&B history.

Even years after the dedication, the honor continues to resonate strongly throughout Akron and beyond, with many still talking about the historic moment when Cadillac Boulevard was officially renamed in his honor. 

The street dedication remains a proud symbol of community recognition and hometown pride, celebrating a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Hewett has also continued to engage audiences through surprise interviews and guest appearances across television, radio, podcasts, and digital platforms, reminding fans of his lasting influence and timeless appeal.

Reflecting on the honor, Hewett shared: “Akron will always be home for me. To see my name on a street in the city where I first learned to sing is deeply humbling. I am grateful for the love, the memories, and the continued support from the community that helped shape my journey. This honor is not just mine, it belongs to Akron.”

The designation of “Howard Hewett, Jr. Way” stands as a lasting tribute to his contributions to music and culture, and a reminder of the city that helped shape his remarkable journey from West Akron to global stages.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone.
