Genius Music Visionary and Songwriter Maurice Fonson Makes His Mark on Madonna’s Confessions II as Co-Writer of “School”

Grammy-nominated, Billboard #1 songwriter brings his pen to Madonna’s latest dance era while stepping forward as an artist with new single “Sweet”

Maurice Fonson is a gifted songwriter, visionary producer, and artist creating music that moves, inspires, and connects.

Maurice Fonson is proving once again why his name belongs among the music industry’s most distinctive songwriting voices.

The Grammy-nominated, Billboard #1 songwriter, producer and recording artist, widely recognized for his visionary artistry and songwriting genius, adds another major milestone to his career as an official co-writer of “School,” Track 11 on Madonna’s critically acclaimed album Confessions II.

Released July 3, 2026 through Warner Records, Confessions II serves as a sequel to Madonna’s landmark 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor, returning the global superstar to the dance floor with an album rooted in electronic, dance-pop, house and disco influences.

For Fonson, the opportunity represents a significant milestone in a songwriting career that has taken him across R&B, pop, Latin and international music.

Official credits list Matthew “Maurice” Fonson as a co-writer of “School,” alongside Madonna, Stuart Price, Lanita LaShonda Smith, Scott M. Carter, Mustapha M. Mbiakop and Jessica Ashley Karpov, professionally known as Harloe.

The track is produced by Madonna, Stuart Price, Lanita Smith, Mustapha LeBeau and Triangle Park, with “School” becoming one of the standout dance-oriented moments on Confessions II.

For more than a year, Fonson was unable to publicly discuss his involvement in the project while the music remained under confidentiality.

With the album’s release and official credits now public, the songwriter can finally celebrate the achievement and share his role in bringing “School” to life.

“I had to keep my mouth shut for over a year, which was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” Fonson has said of keeping the collaboration confidential. “Now that the credits are official, I’m excited for people to hear the work and understand that I’m part of this new chapter.”

The accomplishment adds another high-profile credit to Fonson’s growing catalog. His songwriting and production work has included collaborations with Sebastián Yatra, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, Chante Moore, Luke James, Cali Y El Dandee, Juan Magán, Pau Garro, Mario & Heavy D and Jasmine V, among others.

His work with Chante Moore includes the album Moore Is More, while his collaboration with Pau Garro included songwriting and co-production on Garro’s debut full-length Latin album.

Now, as Fonson continues building his own identity as a recording artist, the songwriter behind the music is stepping out from behind the scenes.

His latest single, “Sweet,” is available now and introduces a vibrant new dimension of Fonson’s artistry, blending R&B and pop with contemporary dance, club and international influences.

Written by Maurice Fonson and Adien Lewis and produced by Hershell “KYO” Noah Perez Herrera, Maurice Fonson, Cael Dadian and Lorenzo Johnson, “Sweet” offers listeners a glimpse into the sound of an artist creating on his own terms.

The single is the lead release from Fonson’s forthcoming five-track FUN EP, which features “Nice Guy,” “Sweet,” “Fun,” “Love Me Later (Remix)” and “Know Better.” The title track, “Fun,” is scheduled for release October 16, 2026, the same day the complete EP arrives.

Fonson created much of the project during a seven-month creative period in Brazil, writing and producing between Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles.

The experience gave him the opportunity to explore new sounds while continuing to build on the songwriting foundation that has taken him into rooms with some of the biggest names in contemporary music.

“I wanted to create music that feels good and makes people want to move,” says Fonson.

Spending seven months in Brazil gave me the time and space to really focus on the music and let the creativity take me where it needed to go. ‘Sweet’ is another step in my journey as an artist and in the direction I’m continuing to grow.”

From co-writing for one of the world’s most influential recording artists to releasing music under his own name, Maurice Fonson is demonstrating the full range of his artistry, from the pen behind the music to the voice in front of it.

With “School” on Madonna’s Confessions II, “Sweet” available now and FUN arriving October 16, Fonson’s next chapter is already in motion.
