Unplugged for Self-Care Museum Exhibit Featuring Hollywood Sensation Myles Truitt, Grammy Nominated Will Downing, Award-winning Singer Ayanna Gregory and More to Open August 8th at Mable House Arts Center

The Free, Limited-Time Exhibit will weave together beautiful art and self-care into an uplifting movement that will leave guests feeling empowered, inspired, and renewed

Organizers for Unplugged for Self-Care have announced that their museum exhibit is coming to Mable House Arts Center at 5239 Floyd Rd SW, Mableton, GA 30126 this summer. The exhibit will run from August 8, 2024, through September 19, 2024, and coincides with National Wellness Month which focuses on self-care, stress management, and the promotion of healthy routines. The opening reception will be on Thursday, August 8th from 5 – 7pm.

An uplifting experience, the Unplugged for Self-Care campaign leverages music, photography, and renowned voices, to inspire people to relax and make self-care a priority. This campaign imparts a story and spirit of resilience that encourages people to connect with themselves to find solace, relaxation, and renewal during difficult times. “We will share a collective journey of individuals navigating their evolving realities, both in personal grief and amid significant global events like the recent pandemic and regional tragedies. For us, it’s the ongoing journey towards self-discovery and collective healing fostering a sense of connection and shared humanity in the pursuit of well-being together. Continued self-care is an expressive love letter to yourself,” said Lisa Yolanda George, the exhibit curator.

Participating exhibitors who Lisa now considers part of her soul-family include Hollywood Sensation Myles Truitt (Kin, Dragged Across ConcreteStranger ThingsQueen SugarThe New Edition Story); Grammy Nominated singer & songwriter, Will Downing (“I Go Crazy”, “Wishing On A Star”, “I Try”); Award-winning Singer Ayanna Gregory (daughter of the Late legendary activist, actor, & comedian, Dick Gregory); Celebrity Talent Agent, Danielle Jackson; Celebrity Photographer Jamie Lamor; Celebrity Photographer Jus Jeanean; The Flower Power Family comprised of 3X Spin Award winner & Stellar nominee Neiko Flowers, his wife Janisse Flowers (Urban One Honors, Miss Black Universe, “This is the 60’s” Concert US Tour), their children, Judah Flowers, and Neikoye Flowers, and of course; Lisa Yolanda George a fierce mental wellness advocate, adventurer, publicist, award-winning author, and the exhibit curator.

The upcoming Unplugged for Self-Care exhibition will commence on August 8, 2024, from 5-7 pm with a reception held in conjunction with the Atlanta Collage Society’s exhibit and the works of two sculpture artists to be featured in the alcove exhibit. A year-long passion project, the exhibit is dedicated to Lisa’s mom and guardian angel. ABOUT UNPLUGGED FOR SELF-CARE

The Unplugged for Self-Care initiative uses the power of music, visuals, and stories to foster introspection, renewal, and inner healing and inspire self-love in challenging times. The initiative is guided by statistics from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (and other authoritative entities) which state the following: 1) “22.8% of U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2021 (57.8 million people). This represents 1 in 5 adults.” 2) In 2021, “Suicide was the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-14 and 25-34, the third leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 15-24, and the fifth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 44.”; 3) 7.6% of U.S. adults experienced a co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness in 2021 (19.4 million people) and; more.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone.
