R&B singer and songwriter Shemida J has been carving a space for herself in the music game and is looking to climb to bigger heights with the release of her new single, Kinky. The song appears on the soundtrack for the upcoming film of the same name (Kinky), released in theaters on October 12th. Cast members include Dawn Richard, Robert Ri’Chard, Vivica Fox, Darrin Henson and others.

Kinky is a sexy track that features a collaboration from singer Durty So Clean – perfectly complementing the scintillating storyline of the movie, which centers on a doctor (Richard) who embarks on a journey of sexual exploration, more specifically, the S&M lifestyle with her newfound love interest (Ri’chard).

Despite the film’s risqué nature, Shemida J is a fan of the storyline, which shows a woman being openly expressive with her sexuality – something she believes women are often unfairly frowned upon for.

“I think women have evolved from just being objects to a point where we can express our desires and our needs,” she said. “My song speaks from the perspective of an intelligent woman who knows what she wants. It is a great thing when a woman can be comfortable in her own body.”

Known by supporters for her classic sound and versatile vocals, Shemida J was approached by producers of the film who thought the songstress was a perfect fit for the soundtrack.

“They reached out to my team because they wanted a female artist and they liked my sound,” she said. “They then suggested that I write the song, so I wrote it to the trailer that was already created. It was kind of like the perfect timing. There wasn’t a whole lot of back and forth. They liked it.”
