ATLANTA’S PREMIER SCREENING OF SARAH’S OIL: A NIGHT OF BLACK EXCELLENCE, LEGACY, AND LIGHT

By Dr. Jerome Dorn

The red carpet shimmered with elegance and anticipation as Atlanta gathered at the Regal Theatre in Atlantic Station for the exclusive premiere of SARAH’S OIL, hosted by Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Tricky Stewart. The powerful historical drama is set to hit theaters nationwide on November 7th, marking a milestone moment in Black storytelling and cinematic excellence.

THE STORY THAT CHANGED HISTORY

SARAH’S OIL is inspired by the remarkable true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted—and whose faith is ultimately proven right. As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends, and a group of daring Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming one of the nation’s first African American female millionaires—at just eleven years old.

The film captures her journey through adversity, courage, and faith as she battles racial injustice and systemic greed to claim what was rightfully hers. Through breathtaking cinematography, a moving score, and deeply human storytelling, SARAH’S OIL honors the power of belief and the brilliance of a young Black girl who changed the course of history.

ATLANTA: THE PERFECT STAGE FOR A HISTORIC PREMIERE

Atlanta’s Regal Theatre at Atlantic Station served as the perfect backdrop for this momentous event. Known as the “Hollywood of the South,” Atlanta continues to champion stories that celebrate Black excellence, culture, and history. The premiere drew an impressive roster of filmmakers, celebrities, community leaders, and influencers—all dressed in regal tones of gold and black, symbolizing oil, power, and prosperity.

Tricky Stewart, whose influence in the music industry has shaped generations, shared his passion for bringing this forgotten chapter of history to life:

“We’ve told a lot of stories in entertainment, but this one is about ownership, legacy, and belief. Sarah Rector was a visionary before her time—and her story deserves to be amplified.”

THE ENERGY IN THE ROOM

Before the screening, guests mingled along the red carpet where history met Hollywood. Interviews, laughter, and camera flashes filled the air as anticipation built. Inside the theatre, the energy was electric.

From the opening scene, the audience was drawn into Sarah’s world—her innocence, her faith, and her fight for justice. Every emotional beat resonated deeply, and by the final frame, the room erupted into a standing ovation. Many viewers were moved to tears, inspired by the story’s message of perseverance and self-worth.

A LEGACY THAT STILL INSPIRES

SARAH’S OIL isn’t just a film—it’s a movement. It reminds us that true wealth is more than money; it’s courage, community, and legacy. Sarah Rector’s story continues to inspire new generations to believe in the power of faith, ownership, and purpose.

“Sarah’s story reminds us that we come from greatness,”Stewart reflected. “It’s time the world sees that greatness on screen.”
