Gina Lloyd Discusses the Afrobeat Inspiration Behind Her Hit Song “Shackles (Praise You) Cover”

Gospel artist, songwriter, and worship leader Gina Lloyd is celebrating the release of her latest hit, “Shackles (Praise You) Cover” (feat. Larry Kingdom).

Paying homage to the multi-platinum gospel classic by Mary Mary, the single highlights Gina’s signature fusion of Afrobeat, Jamaican rhythms, and soulful worship, bringing a fresh, vibrant energy to a song that continues to inspire audiences nationwide.

Gina has also made waves with her song “Set Me on Fire,” which features a riddim/beat that has taken Jamaica by storm.

Notably, Kevin Downswell, a major Jamaican artist, wrote a song (Bless Me) on the same riddim, but Gina was the first to bring a gospel song to this vibrant rhythm, showcasing her innovation and versatility as a gospel artist.

With a strong social media presence (@gina_lloyd88) and music available across streaming platforms, Gina continues to make her mark in contemporary gospel music.

Gina Lloyd: Yes! The riddim/beat has really taken Jamaica by storm, especially after Kevin Downswell, a very big Jamaican artist, wrote Bless Me on the same riddim. It’s exciting to see the energy and creativity happening around this rhythm and to be part of it in a gospel space.

Gina Lloyd: My previous rendition of “Shackles (Praise You)” reached #22 on the Urban Influencer Gospel Chart. It’s humbling to see listeners embrace my music and witness how it connects with people across the country.

Q: Your career includes working with some big names. Can you share your background in the music industry?

Gina Lloyd: Before pursuing my solo career, I sang backup for world-renowned artists like Alicia Keys and Josh Groban. I embraced my calling as a psalmist and worship leader early on, and those experiences have deeply shaped my musical style and ministry.

Q: What other singles have you released that fans should know about?

Gina Lloyd: My catalog includes standout singles such as Walk Holy, Dependable Unchangeable God, and Set Me on Fire, reflecting my versatility and commitment to delivering music that uplifts and inspires.
