Michael V. Epps: Chicago’s Own Star on the Rise

Michael V. Epps has carved his name into television history as one of the most authentic young voices of his generation. For seven seasons on Showtime’s groundbreaking series The CHI, Epps brought Jake Taylor to life—a character whose journey mirrored the realities of growing up in Chicago. With his raw and deeply layered performance, he transformed Jake into more than a character; he became a reflection of the challenges, resilience, and triumphs that define so many young people’s stories.

What set Michael apart was not only his talent, but the truth he carried into every scene. Born and raised in Chicago, he understood the weight of Jake’s story from the inside out. That authenticity resonated with audiences across the country and around the world. Viewers didn’t just watch Jake grow—they grew with him, feeling the pulse of Chicago through Michael’s performance. His work helped solidify The CHI as more than just a television show—it became a cultural touchstone, a mirror held up to the complexities and beauty of community life in the city.

As The CHI closes the chapter on its seventh and final season, Michael Epps stands at a turning point in his career, but it’s far from an ending. Instead, it’s an evolution. With acting as his foundation, he is stepping boldly into the world of music, expanding his artistry and creating new pathways to tell his story. For Michael, music is not a departure but a natural extension of the storytelling he has already mastered. It’s his chance to move beyond a scripted role and speak directly to his generation with his own voice.

His sound, like his presence, is rooted in truth. Drawing inspiration from his own experiences and his city’s rhythms, Michael is crafting music that reflects not only his growth but also his hunger and his hope. Fans who came to know him as Jake Taylor will now discover another side of him—raw, lyrical, and deeply personal.

Balancing two creative careers is no small task, but Michael approaches both with the same dedication: telling authentic stories. Whether in front of the camera or behind the mic, his goal is the same—to inspire, to represent, and to remind young people that their voices matter. In his own words and actions, he proves that environment doesn’t define destiny.

Now with a global fan base, red carpet appearances, and the weight of a cultural phenomenon behind him, Michael V. Epps is stepping into his next act with confidence. His journey is not only one of personal success, but also one of representation for Chicago and young creatives everywhere. He embodies the resilience of his hometown while showing the world that its stories—and his—are meant to be heard far beyond city limits.

From the South Side of Chicago to international stages, Michael V. Epps is no longer just the breakout teen actor audiences first met on The CHI. He is a multi-hyphenate artist, a voice for Gen Z, and a rising star whose evolution is just beginning. And as he moves forward, one thing is clear: Michael isn’t just playing roles—he’s writing his own legacy.

Celebrity photographer and disabled Vietnam veteran Jerome Dorn embodies the very definition of resilience. Born in Philadelphia, the fifth of seven children, Dorn stayed focused throughout his youth, eventually obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice. Dorn has worked with the Philadelphia Police Department, Department of Justice, World Wide Detective Agency, and several other high profile security groups. Throughout his successful career, Dorn wrestled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an aftereffect of his military service. Battling the pain and debilitating effect of PTSD, Dorn found comfort behind the camera. Photography proved to be not only therapeutic, but life changing as well. Dorn picked up his first camera in 1970 while serving in Vietnam and knew instantly that behind the lens was where he belonged. His shooting style and photographs were special, generating a buzz in the industry. In 1985, he began his career in photojournalism, working in a variety of genres. Dorn’s credentials include fashion, lifestyle photography, photojournalism, and celebrity/red carpet coverage. Working with MSNBC, Jet Magazine, and major publications in Philadelphia and around the country, Dorn has had the honor of capturing the images of hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians including President Barack Obama, George Bush Jr, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jesse Jackson, Rihanna, Snoop Dog, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. Photography has sent Dorn around the globe, inspiring his passion for civil activism. In 1995, Dorn assembled and led a group of forty-two men to the Million Man March. Together, they spent five days walking from Philadelphia to Washington DC. In his travels, Dorn observed a common theme amongst the youth of the world. Many of the children he encountered seemed lost. Understanding that opportunities for at-risk youth are minimal, Dorn was inspired to make a difference. Established by Dorn in 2011, InDaHouseMedia was built on the idea that there is room in the house for everyone. With InDaHouseMedia, Dorn’s mission is to provide the future generation with positive direction through sports, music, and photography.
